Paid vs Organic

Yeah, this is a big question for many small online retailers and startups.

Simply put, if you truly believe in your products, you need to plan a marketing budget.

Doing it the wise way, with solid guidance from experienced professionals is honestly the best way to go.

Very short story for you on this.

I worked with a fashion brand with just under 500 products and product variations. They had established a nice niche and for a couple years worked very hard building up an organic following, finally achieving a goal of $20,000 in monthly sales. They were overjoyed, feeling they had achieved the impossible.

We met by chance, and I offered to give them a brand audit review after hearing them tell me their story..

They had so much untapped potential but had no clue.

Product SEO was nonexistent. Keywords, good story product descriptions? Nope. Search engines, without including their unique brand name, did not find them in the top 100 pages. Social media was totally underutilized and only a single channel.

The plan

  • SEO
  • More SEO
  • Create a budgeted PPC marketing campaign
  • Create budgeted omnichannel Social Media campaigns
  • Create permanent content, blogs
  • Build-in automation with Email and SMS Marketing
  • Started a pair of Newsletters
  • Improve their online store, adding reviews, gift cards, loyalty rewards, etc.
  • Create campaign-specific landing pages and well-designed funnels.

The total initial marketing budget across the board for the first 3 months was $50,000.

The results

Month 1 saw increased sales with a new high of $32,000

Month 2 climbed to $37,000

Month 3 jumped to $102,000.

Take from this what you will. I will post updates on how they are doing with this next quarter. They have planned to hold their budget to $50,000 per quarter with the plan to increase based on their results.

I hope that your imagination is now running wild with all the possibilities for your business. If you’d like to share your ideas or need help, I’m always open to new conversations on LinkedIn. You may also contact me or schedule a video consultation.
